name change

So... I changed the name of my blog to The Launderette because that's the name of my store and I like it better than Faux Realism. Weidly, the store was named after my original blog, called The Launderette, I had in like 2008. This name has staying power, I guess, and I like that.

Speaking of the store, I'm offering 24% off now through Monday, Feb 18th with coupon code: HAPPY24. Because I turn 24 tomorrow. That's one whole percent more savings than last year!

The snow from the blizzard the other day is basically gone now. There's piles of it here and there but no more getting soaked feet from trying to step from the street to the sidewalk. The day after the blizzard was gorgeous-- actually, it's been sunny more often recently which I love-- so I went on a long walk and took a bunch of pictures.

I did not make these, but I liked them:

When I got back, Michael and I made pizzas. Whenever I take pictures of something I'm making, I ALWAYS forget to take pictures once it's done. Probably because I'm too busy eating it. So... two raw pizza pictures. The one on the left is carmelized onion, mushroom, and shredded mozerella. The right is tomato sauce, fresh mozerella, red peppers, and tomato.

Sideburns and Bagels

Smithsonian is holding a contest for best Civil War facial hair and if that wasn't awesome enough look at who's winning:

Ambrose Burnside.

His name is thisclose to being sideburn! And I'm pretty sure that's why he's winning by like 3000 votes.

In other news, I'm starting to get really exciting about my move to New York in August and the blog Maison des Reverie is almost entirely to blame. She has recently posted about a sandwich shop with Bahn Mi, a Cuban resturant, and a bagel shop. One right after another. In that order. My roommate and I went and looked at the restuarant's menus on their websites and.... THEY WEREN'T EXPENSIVE! We peed ourselves with delight! Not really, but I mean... Seriously. Like... Ugggh I am having trouble expressing my excitement. Look!

Bahn Mi!

Bagel with Lox!

Do you know how hard it is to find a good bagel in Richmond?! Not that hard, there's a couple places that get them imported from H&H, but the places near my house that have them are Starbucks, Panera, and some coffee shops that have crappy mushy stupid bagels. I mean... look at that thing! It is glorious! I will eat you in three months!

UPDATE: Just kidding! My boyfriend has just informed me that the sideburn was named after him and he pretty much invented it. So, really, that gives him an unfair advantage in this competition. There are some intense competitors with really crazy freaking facial hair that just don't stand a chance.

Summer never comes

Hope everyone's ready for those inevitable "orange is the new black" articles. Or, even more likely, their spring counterpart, "orange is the new pink!" It's gonna happen.

Bedrooms

I need one of these in New York. I have a weird thing for really comfortable looking white bedrooms and these are some from teh internetz I've stashed in my pictures folder. New York was amazing and even though two weeks ago I wanted to take time off of school (again), I can't wait to graduate and move. Yesterday I had a perfect morning. We went and got coffee and bagels and ate them outside on a bench and fed really cute little birds. Maybe that sounds really... ordinary? But the weather was so nice and the area around Columbia is so pretty! I just want that to be my everyday.

Crimson and Clover

Today I'm happy because

1) The weather is amazing! Seriously. We have all the windows in our apartment open right now. 'Cept for that one that's stuck and that other one that's sorta stuck. Clear skies, sunny, about 80 degrees. And the weather in New York is supposed to be really good (tomorrow: sunny with HIGH of 75 degrees!!!!)

2) I leave for New York tonight at 1am! Chinatown bus. Holla.

3) I have a reason to bake something today since I'm making brownies for my friend Ida who is letting us stay with her.

4) I'm wearing my new shirt:

5) Blondie radio on pandora, even though "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" (Why is the "I've Had" in parenthesis? Necessary?) came on while I was typing this and I'm not really a fan since it reminds me of creepy older men getting with girls too young for them that are appropriately nick-named Baby.

6) I got a weekend that feels weekendish for the first time in a long time. And its a three day weekend!

PS. Peep this. I like this one:
